Earthcycle, Sunset Foods Support Upcoming Earth Day
April 14, 2010 | 2 min to read
Earthcycle Packaging, Ltd. and Illinois retailer Sunset Foods, in conjunction with Indianapolis Fruit Company, have partnered together to supply customers with fresh produce packaged in Earthcycle’s backyard compostable products to celebrate Earth Day, April 22nd. In addition to using Earthcycle’s revolutionary eco-conscious palm fiber trays, which decompose naturally in as few as 90 days, accompanying in-store merchandising will also educate consumers on the importance of sustainable thinking, and what each person can do to make an important difference in sustainability.
What started as a simple idea to pool all three companies’ resources in an effort to support Earth Day and bring about real environmental change has certainly taken off, with excitement surrounding the promotion growing daily. This early interest supports studies that show today’s consumers actually seek out “green” products, and are eager to learn more about how their buying choices can have a positive impact on the environment. All three companies say they couldn’t be happier with the initial response from consumers, saying that working together felt like a natural fit from the onset.
“Sunset Foods is always looking for ways to make a difference in the world around us. So when our supplier Indianapolis Fruit Company approached us about linking up with Earthcycle, we were very excited,” says Vince Mastromauro, Sunset Foods Produce & Floral Director. “What better way to celebrate than by providing helpful information while at the same time introducing a new, revolutionary type of packaging to our customers that promotes all the principles that Earth Day stands for.”
Earthcycle Packaging, an innovative industry leader manufacturing certified home compostable packaging for retailers throughout Canada and the United States, designs durable, safe and environmentally responsible packaging alternatives from renewable palm fiber. Founded six years ago by CEO Shannon Boese, the company’s mission was simple — to ultimately reduce North America’s mounting waste problem by creating global-friendly packaging products that alleviate the environmental and health hazards brought on by plastics. Sustainable goals also included limiting the population’s dependency on petroleum products, as well as creating a better working environment and quality of life for those affected by the incineration of palm waste. In addition, Earthcycle is proud that the source of their raw material has been independently reviewed and confirmed to be “sustainably harvested,” meaning it has not been created at the expense of wildlife habitats or high conservation forests.
