Point Reyes, CA – Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company of Marin County took home two ribbons at the American Cheese Society’s Annual Judging & Competition in Sacramento, CA on Thursday, July 31st. Point Reyes Bay Blue earned a 1st Place Ribbon in the Rinded Blue Cheese Category and was named the 2nd Place Winner, Best of Show. Best of Show is awarded to the ‘best of the best’; out of 1685 total entries from 248 separate companies, the first place winners of the 105 separate categories are judged a second time to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Best in Show.
“We are over-joyed with the recognition for Bay Blue. Our team has worked diligently on making Bay Blue World-class. Being awarded the second-best cheese out of nearly 1700, that is truly gratifying,” said Kuba Hemmerling, Head Cheese Maker. Bob Giacomini, founder of Point Reyes Farmstead agreed, “We are honored beyond belief and are especially thrilled to celebrate this highest of praise from our industry right in our own backyard. It is especially sweet.”
Giacomini, together with his wife and four daughters, founded Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company on their family dairy in 2000. Original Blue™ is the company’s flagship cheese. The ACS honors add to an award-filled year: In January the company’s, buttery-flavored table cheese, Toma, won the Good Food Award for Best Cheese and their new Point Reyes Blue Cheese Dip in Original Blue Flavor won the sofi Award for Best Dip or Salsa from the Specialty Food Association at this year’s New York Fancy Food Show in June. The Point Reyes Farmstead product line is available nationally at independent cheese shops and specialty chains as well as at www.pointreyescheese.com.
