CHICAGO — The Technomic Foodservice Category Management Institute® has released the industry's first textbook devoted entirely to the adoption and propagation of a foodservice category management business discipline.
"Practitioners Guide to Foodservice Category Management" takes readers through category management's core principles while illustrating their practical application in the foodservice environment. Technomic's 12-Step Foodservice Category Management Process includes "SKUmocracy®," its unique and proven approach to category assessment and plan execution.
The Technomic Foodservice Category Management Institute® was launched last year in collaboration with the Category Management Association (CMA), International Foodservice Distributors Association, (IFDA), Foodservice Sales and Marketing Association (FSMA) and major foodservice manufacturers, sales agencies, distributors and operators.
Institute Executive Director Barry Friends stated, "We are pleased to have assembled key stakeholders to compose this important academic volume. Our collaboration with the CMA, our Steering Committee, and advisors from IFDA and FSMA has enabled us to create an easy-to-read text full of vital concepts, examples, and practical step-by-step instructions. We set out to offer a resource to help aspiring practitioners and their trading partners differentiate their businesses in an increasingly commoditized industry, and have accomplished just that."
The Technomic Foodservice Category Management Institute® supplements the new textbook with on-site training ("Boot Camps") for manufacturers, sales agencies, and distributors on the 12-Step Foodservice Category Management Process, utilizing case studies to blend theory with practice and bring concepts to life.
Coming mid-spring, the Institute's core curriculum of category management fundamentals will be available for practitioners in an online, self-paced educational format.
These programs are offered at discounted rates to members of the Technomic Foodservice Category Management Institute®. Non-members can purchase the textbook, on-site training sessions, and access to the online training tools for a fee.
