In spite of rapidly-dropping temperatures and cold, drizzling rain, spirits were high at Monterey Mushrooms last week as the Madisonville facility announced an upcoming expansion project which would add 40,000 square feet and 50,000 square feet respectively to the plant.
Luis Acosta, Monterey Mushroom Madisonville facility human resources director, told the Meteor on the phone, prior to the event that the facility would be “adding 50,000 square feet of cooler space, which will include packing and support pace, and we will be putting together a 40,000-square foot stand-alone production facility on the site.”
Acosta said, “We are expanded and hoping the production increase will to support our retail and food service customers.” He said that with the new expansions, Monterey will see an increase in production by “3.5 million pounds annually.”
