In a sign that St. Louis’ restaurant business is thriving, national food distributor Gordon Food Service has quietly opened three brick-and-mortar stores in the metro area in recent months.
Most recently, the $9 billion company opened a GFS Marketplace location in St. Peters this past October, following the opening of stores at the Deer Creek Shopping Center in Maplewood and on Market Place Drive in Fairview Heights, Ill.
While the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company has delivered to restaurants in St. Louis for the past eight years, the GFS Marketplace stores are the company’s first foray here into the “cash and carry” segment of the industry, where restaurant customers can restock their shelves between deliveries.
