NEW YORK CITY – In celebration of the start of their season and National Apple Day, Opal apples opens the doors today to its first ever ‘Opal Orchard NYC’ pop-up. Fittingly located on Orchard Street in Downtown Manhattan, the Orchard will bear fruit from October 19 through October 21 (National Apple Day). The event visually transports visitors to Broetje Orchards – where Opal apples are grown and harvested – for a fun, hands-on interactive experience complete with an Opal apple tree ripe for the picking.

“Since we know how much New Yorkers love apple season, we wanted to bring the experience of visiting our Opal orchard right to the heart of New York. And honestly, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate National Apple Day,” says Chuck Zeutenhorst, general manager of FirstFruits Marketing, the exclusive grower and shipper of Opal Apples. “We wanted to bring a fun, visual and fully immersive experience for visitors of all ages to enjoy without having to leave the city.”

The Opal Orchard NYC experience has plenty for visitors to do and see, including special tastings, a 3-D apple photo experience, crafts, contests and giveaways and an Opal Apple tree for apple picking.  In addition, Paul Esvelt, Post Harvest Manager at Broetje Orchards, will be on site throughout the weekend to engage with consumers and share his knowledge of Opal Apples. Visitors to the Opal Orchard will also have a chance to take home a sample of this year’s crop.

On Saturday, October 20, Esvelt will appear on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” morning program from 6 to 10 a.m. to present Opal apples, talk about great fall recipes and invite visitors to the Orchard.

Opal apples are supported all season long with an innovative marketing strategy including in-store support, a full calendar of consumer events and public relations, engaging social media and digital content, partnerships with consumer influencers and a highly-targeted digital advertising campaign.

FirstFruits Marketing of Washington is the exclusive marketer of the Opal® apple, offering the variety in both organic and conventional options and expects this season’s supply to last through June 2019.
