WELLFLEET — The state will reopen Wellfleet Harbor to shellfishing on Monday morning, 25 days after it was closed because of an outbreak of highly contagious norovirus.
Beginning at sunrise, shellfishermen will be allowed to go out and harvest their product from aquaculture grants and tidal flats.
Following an investigation, the state Division of Marine Fisheries concluded the outbreak was likely due to one-time incident in which someone sick with norovirus either threw up into the water or threw a bucket of human waste overboard, according to a statement issued by the agency on Thursday.
