PRESCOTT, ARIZONA – The Labor of Love program, based in Yuma, was honored at the AZ Interagency Farmworkers Coalition Conference in Prescott, AZ on September 26, 2016. The Labor of Love program celebrates farmworkers and their commitment to the agriculture industry and surprises workers with breakfasts and random acts of kindness. The AZ Farmworkers Coalition was formed over 20 years ago as a collaboration between organizations in Arizona that endeavors to partner with and act as a resource for those serving the farmworker population. The theme of the conference was "Stronger together- partners and collaborations."
The presentation included photos; stories and videos of the programs since its inception in the Fall of 2015. Program coordinators Susan Sternitzke and Kristan Sheppeard spoke on behalf of the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association to explain the mission of the Labor of Love program and highlighted the collaborative nature of the program that involves many partners.
The Labor of Love program started in the Fall of 2015 in Yuma and then transitioned to Salinas, CA for the summer months. Since the program started, it has touched not only farmworkers but also thousands of followers on their Facebook page. One recent post reached over 180,000 people across the country.
During the conference, Labor of Love was honored to receive a check for $500 from the AZ Interagency Farmworkers Coalition. The money will be used for a special random act of kindness when the program returns to Yuma in October, 2016.
