With modern day consumers’ desire to understand how their meat was raised, attention has turned to grass feeding beef in order to increase the health benefits associated with beef.
Grass-fed beef has been popularized among consumers because of the increased amount of unsaturated omega 3 fatty acids deposited within these animals’ muscle and fat tissues.
These omega 3 fatty acids have been thought to have predominant impacts on human health and disease prevention. Thus the incorporation of omega 3s in beef presents a unique opportunity for producers to market a ‘healthier’ product. However the level of omega 3 fatty acids in grass fed has been found extremely variable when comparing the research studies that have been conducted on this topic.
