PETALUMA — For over 35 years, Alvarado Street Bakery has specialized in producing a variety of unique and wholesome breads made from 100 percent organic, high protein whole grains such as sprouted wheat, corn, lentils and soybeans. Alvarado Street’s 40 some varieties offer a healthier alternative when compared to traditional flour-based baked goods. Besides being made without flour, Alvarado does not use ingredients containing GMOs, added oil and sugar, or artificial preservatives.

In March the company was certified through the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Institute program. SQF represents a global food safety initiative, and a collaboration among the world’s leading food safety experts from retailers, manufacturers and food service companies with established criteria and standards for food safety management systems. The program has quickly become an industry standard with a growing number of food manufacturers being audited and certified through SQF.

“The SQF on-site audit process and operations review put us through a lot of hoops, but it was well worth it as a way to help us further enhance our quality control and food safety programs,” said Kevin Haslebacher, General Coordinator and CEO of Alvarado Street Bakery located at 2225 South McDowell Boulevard Extension in Petaluma.
