Schnuck Markets Inc. officials said Thursday they will begin construction this summer on a new distribution center, estimated to cost $100 million, in north St. Louis County.

The St. Louis grocery chain plans to build the 915,000-square-foot facility at the NorthPark business park in Kinloch and would employ about 400 people. The NorthPark facility would join Schnuck Market's 570,000-square-foot grocery warehouse in Bridgeton, a facility built in 1971 that Schnucks said has gone through several expansions to accommodate company growth.

If Schnuck Markets meets certain job creation and other requirements, it will be eligible to receive up to $3.7 million in incentives through the Missouri Works Program, according to a spokeswoman for the state Department of Economic Development.
