DeWitt, N.Y. — After a two-year delay, Byrne Dairy is moving forward with a $32.5 million expansion that will nearly double the size of its dairy plant in DeWitt and create 50 jobs.

Ground is scheduled to be broken this fall on an approximately 100,000-square-foot addition to the company's Ultra Dairy plant, which uses an ultra-high temperature pasteurization process to make milk, coffee creamers and other dairy products with a shelf life of up to 180 days.

The company is seeking $2.1 million in tax exemptions for the expansion, which will be the third since it opened on West Benedict Road in 2003. The previous expansions occurred in 2007 and 2008.
