Summerville, SC –  Katie Stagliano has once again been featured on the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams Making a Difference special report which recognizes individuals throughout the U.S. making a positive change in the community. Each night last week, NBC's Nightly News followed up with the subjects of some of its most popular stories in the "Making a Difference" series, which launched in 2005. Stagliano, the 16-year-old founder of Katie’s Krops, was first featured in the special back in 2009 and NBC revisited her story to see how she has made a difference and continues to empower youth across the country to end hunger one vegetable garden at a time.

During the Thursday, October 23rd segment Natalie Morales reported the growth of the inspirational non-profit. When Katie’s Krops story was first covered back in 2009 the organization had 5 gardens in her home state of South Carolina. Today the organization has grown to over 80 gardens in 29 states.  Katie has since received the Clinton Global Citizen Award and raised nearly $250,000 in donations from individuals and corporations to enable youth ages 9-16 to grow vegetable gardens and donate the fresh harvest to the underserved in their communities.  The 5o1(c)3 organization now dreams of supporting 500 gardens across all 50 states by 2018, and continuing to educate young growers about agriculture and the environment, and building a sustainable solution to the problem of hunger while teaching responsibility and compassion.

Natalie Morales visited Katie's Krops grower, Katie Cannon of Maryland, to showcase how the organization is inspiring kids to grow gardens for their communities. "Katie Cannon is just one of our amazing growers," says Katie Stagliano who couldn't be happier to see her dream flourish. Katie’s Krops wouldn’t be able to thrive without the support of donations and sponsors such as Bi-Lo, LoBue Citrus, FirstFruits’ Opal Apple®, RPE’s line of Tasteful Selections™ potatoes and WP Rawl.
