Consumer Expert Todd Hale Strategizes With Bakers On Growth Opportunities In The Marketplace

In ABA's Mid-Year Consumer Update, retail thought leader Todd Hale strategized with bakers to take advantage of growth opportunities in the marketplace. He reported that although consumer spending was up, baking category sales were relatively flat. Sales around the perimeter of the storing are faring better, therefore the focus needs to be on attracting customers to center-store bakery aisles.
"Growth is hard to come by, you need to work with your retail partners to find innovative techniques to drive people to the category," Todd said. "Baked goods are the number one reason consumers go to the grocery store. Collaborate with your retailer and other food manufacturers to bring innovation to this category and drive growth." Todd suggested several specific ways to take advantage of opportunities based on today's consumer shopping behavior and trends.
