USDA Seeks Nominees for Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee

USDA encourages nominees who reflect the full diversity of the produce sector in terms of size and scale of operation, industry role, demographic characteristics, geographic location and production methods. Qualified candidates include active members of the fruit and vegetable industry serving in one of the above-mentioned agricultural capacities. 

USDA Research Documents Absence of Trichinella Infection in Commercial Pigs

ARS and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) conducted a national survey by sampling 3.2 million pigs raised under the U.S. Pork Quality Assurance Plus (PQA+) program and found zero animals infected with Trichinella. These results are consistent with international food safety guidelines for Trichinella to be considered a negligible risk for public health.

USDA Redistricts and Reapportions South Texas Onion Marketing Order

This action consolidates the geographic districts under the marketing order from two to one and reapportions committee membership among producers and handlers.

USDA Proposes New Policy to Reduce Salmonella in Raw Poultry Products

The proposal would establish final product standards to prevent raw chicken carcasses, chicken parts, ground chicken, and ground turkey products that contain any type of Salmonella at or above 10 colony forming units (CFU) per gram/ml and any detectable level of at least one of the Salmonella serotypes of public health significance from entering commerce.

USDA Announces Results of the Oregon and Washington Pear Marketing Order Referendum

In the referendum, 99.24% of voting pear producers, representing 99.42% of the production volume voting in the referendum, favored the amendment. The votes met the requirement of needing support from two-thirds of the producers voting, or two-thirds of the volume represented.
