NGA and Feeding America Hold Congressional Briefings on the Importance of Maintaining SNAP Choice

The National Grocers Association (NGA) and Feeding America held a congressional briefing on the necessity of maintaining SNAP Choice throughout the United States. The briefing consisted of expert speakers on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), including an independent grocery retailer, a person with lived experience on SNAP, and a food bank advisor.

National Grocers Association (NGA) Applauds Congressional Action to Protect Grocers and SNAP Participants in FY 2025 Agriculture Appropriations Bill 

A proposal dropped from the final bill would have created a five-state pilot to significantly limit the types of foods covered under SNAP, forcing grocers to examine hundreds of thousands of food items to determine which qualify and which don’t. The proposed pilot program would have allowed five state governments to pick winners and losers in the grocery sector, harming the 42 million SNAP participants who have diverse nutritional needs.

Add Milk! Program Expands in 500 Meijer Stores Across the Midwest

Midwest retailer Meijer recently doubled the Add Milk! program discount it offers to SNAP-eligible participants – upping it to 40 percent off any brand or size of low-fat or non-fat milk. A community event held at Meijer store in East Lansing, Mich., marked the expansion of the program. U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) was in attendance.
