G.U.L.F. RFM Certification Transitions Over to CSC RFM Certification Starting with U.S. Gulf of Mexico Shrimp

With great excitement, the Certified Seafood Collaborative (CSC) announces that the Audubon Nature Institute’s Gulf United for Lasting Fisheries (G.U.L.F.) Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) Certification program is transitioning over to the CSC’s RFM Certification program beginning with an RFM assessment for white, brown, and pink shrimp in all five Gulf states and federal waters. 

MDMR Announces Shrimp Season to Close West of Gulfport Ship Channel; Additional Waters South of Intracoastal Waterway Remain Open

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) announced today that beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel in Mississippi territorial waters are closed to shrimping.

Second Edition of Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Sustainable Shrimp Partnership’s Shrimp Summit in Ecuador Attracts Buyers from Major Markets Across the Globe

Following a successful inaugural of the Shrimp Summit in July 2022, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) are hosting another ASC Shrimp Summit on June 12-14, 2023. In 2022, ASC buyers and seafood suppliers from the United States and Canada such as Sysco, Alberton’s, Disney, Ahold Delhaize USA, Metro, and Loblaws joined the event. This year, shrimp buyers from all three major and promising export markets of Ecuador – North America, Europe, and Japan – have confirmed their participation.

New Study Will Aim to Protect Global Shrimp Industry by Finding Effective Ways to Promote Shrimp Consumption

The Global Shrimp Forum Foundation is a non-profit organisation. Each year, the foundation will use any financial surplus generated from the annual meeting of the Global Shrimp Forum, to contribute financially to projects aligned with the GSFF’s mission. These projects will initially focus on mangrove conservation, aquaculture improvement and pre-competitive research.

Record-Breaking Ocean Temperatures Reported: Warming Waters Impact Shrimp Fishery

Record-breaking warm temperatures were captured in the annual Atlantic Ocean monitoring program in the spring of 2022. This spring, Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) scientist Chantelle Layton, who is part of the DFO team analyzing last year’s data, found record high temperatures across the survey area on the Scotian Shelf – the section of the Continental Shelf off Nova Scotia – excluding the eastern Scotia Shelf, where DFO didn’t conduct an ecosystem survey last year.
