Norway Exported Seafood Worth NOK 13,1 Billion in May – Saved by the Weak Krone

“As in April, we also see a significant currency effect in May. The weak Norwegian krone alone contributed to an increase in export value of around NOK 1.5 billion last month. Without this currency development, there would have been a decline in export value. The market situation has now become more demanding”, says Christian Chramer, CEO of the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Price Growth Led to a Record Start for Norwegian Seafood Exports in 2023

For the first time since April 1989, the USA is the largest market for Norwegian seafood exports. Norway exported NOK 1.15 billion worth of seafood to the USA in January, an increase of 41 per cent since January last year.

2022 was the best year ever for Norwegian seafood exports. Norway exported 2.9 million tonnes of seafood to a value of NOK 151.4 billion last year. It is a record for export value and corresponds to 40 million meals every day – all year round.

Record Breaking Results for Norwegian Seafood Exports Continues

Norway exported seafood with a value of NOK 11.6 billion July, representing an increase of NOK 2.1 billion, or 23 per cent, compared to July 2021. Year to date, Norway has exported NOK 81.7 billion by seafood value. This is an increase of NOK 18.5 billion, or 29 per cent, compared to last year.
