Evidence Found of Seafood Fraud in Nearly 30% of Restaurants in Louisiana’s Capital City

After sampling menu items at 24 restaurants randomly chosen across the city, SeaD Consulting’s investigators discovered that nearly 30% of the dishes sampled—more than one in four—were misrepresented. Seven out of the 24 restaurants were misleading customers by advertising shrimp as Gulf shrimp when, in fact, it was imported.

FDA Makes Available Menu Labeling Social Media Toolkit for Consumer Outreach

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is making available a Menu Labeling Social Media Toolkit for use by organizations and health education professionals to conduct outreach with their audiences. This toolkit is designed to raise awareness of how consumers can use calorie information they may now see on menus and menu boards.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is announcing its website Calories on the Menu – Information for Consumers to coincide with National Nutrition Month.® Educational materials focus on areas where there are gaps in consumer understanding and use of nutrition information, such as the number of calories that are needed in a day.
