The change announced by the FSIS comes in response to a joint petition by the GCCA and the Meat Import Council of America (MICA). It is the culmination of many months of work to secure a common-sense change to the policy that unnecessarily limits the geographic location within which a facility can be located to be permitted to serve as an “Import House” (I-House).

FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Ineligible Meat and Poultry Products Illegally Imported from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for various meat and poultry products that were illegally imported from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Myanmar is a country ineligible to export meat and poultry products to the United States. FSIS is continuing to investigate how these products entered the country.

USDA Proposes New Policy to Reduce Salmonella in Raw Poultry Products

The proposal would establish final product standards to prevent raw chicken carcasses, chicken parts, ground chicken, and ground turkey products that contain any type of Salmonella at or above 10 colony forming units (CFU) per gram/ml and any detectable level of at least one of the Salmonella serotypes of public health significance from entering commerce.
