A groundbreaking research fund that has supported scientific innovation in the floral industry for nearly three decades is getting a boost in its effort to provide high quality, cutting-edge research today and into the future, thanks to a strategic new agreement between two longtime industry groups.

Clemson and American Floral Endowment STEM it UP! to Encourage Floriculture Education

Agriscience teachers from all over the United States met at Clemson University to STEM it UP! for floriculture education at a professional development conference focused on teaching them everything they need to know to get their floriculture curriculum in full bloom.

Grants Awarded to Support Aspiring Floral Designers

Four floral design programs have received a total of $30,000 through the American Floral Endowment’s James and Helen Phillip Program.

Shelby Shy Memorial Tribute Established

A memorial tribute has been established by industry members Lori, Brian and Tanner Wheat from Lafayette Florists in Colorado, Charles Ingrum of Dr. Delphinium in Dallas, Texas, and the Midwest Group to honor Shelby Shy who passed away May 8, 2019 at the age of 38.

Seven Students Awarded AFE Internships

This March, five students were awarded Vic & Margaret Ball (production) Internships and two students were awarded a Mosmiller (retail) Internship. Each will also receive scholarships after successfully completing their paid internships, lasting between three to six months.

It’s a win-win for the industry – students can apply their knowledge, while industry organizations bring top talent and fresh thinking to their operation.
