Virginia's upward trend in commercial oyster harvests continues as preliminary results show a harvest of more than 320,000 bushels this season — a 28 percent hike over last year.
If the number holds, officials say this will be the state's largest harvest in 25 years.
The news came Wednesday as Gov. Bob McDonnell toured the Kellum Seafood Company, an oyster shucking house in Weems.
"Working with the General Assembly, we're laser-focused on putting in place policies that help job-creators like Tommy Kellum continue to expand their operations and employ more Virginians in the process," McDonnell said in a prepared statement.
