The Tomales Bay Oyster Co., facing a showdown with county planners this week, withdrew its application to expand operations in Marshall, but promised to return with a new bid for an “all-in-one shellfish farm” that includes housing for workers.
Tod Friend, head of the shellfish company, indicated his new plan “will incorporate additional components that enhance the agricultural focus and safety of the entire project” including four farmworker dwellings and an oyster hatchery and processing plant that will be run by former Drakes Bay oyster purveyor Kevin Lunny.
The aim, he said, is a complex “where shellfish are hatched, grown, processed, sold and enjoyed all in the same place, and all in an environmentally sustainable way.”
