Skuna Bay Salmon Joins Taste Of The NFL To Support NY & NJ Food Charities At Super Bowl

GOLD RIVER, BC — Skuna Bay Salmon is proud to join the Taste of the NFL at the 23rd Annual Super Bowl ‘Party with a Purpose®’ a culinary experience held at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal on February 1st, 2014.

Per tradition, the hunger relief event will take place on the eve of the Super Bowl, Saturday, February 1, 2014, and will be held at Pier 12 of the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. Founded by Minneapolis restaurateur Wayne Kostroski in 1992 when Minnesota hosted Super Bowl XXVI, the organization is known for its annual premier Super Bowl party that pairs renowned chefs from each NFL market with current, alumni and Hall of Fame players. The event draws celebrities from all areas of the entertainment world to raise awareness and funds for hunger relief in cities throughout the country.

"Skuna Bay's passion for raising quality Salmon and the care for the environment matches perfectly with Taste of the NFL's mission, and our Chef Partners’ core business values. We are proud to have them as our newest partner and look forward to many years helping families together,” said Taste of the NFL Founder Wayne Kostroski.

Each year 100% of the net proceeds from Taste of the NFL’s are donated to food banks in all 31 NFL cities with the largest portion of the proceeds going to local Food Charities in the Super Bowl City. This year’s local recipients include the Food Bank for New York City , Community Food Bank of New Jersey, City Harvest and as a gesture of goodwill to the borough for serving as the event’s host city, Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger. The balance of the proceeds will be donated to the designated food bank in each of the other NFL cities, as well as key hunger relief organizations across the country.

In addition to a donation to the Taste of NFL’s food charities, Skuna Bay will be providing the salmon for dishes served by many of the performing chefs including Atlanta Falcon’s Kevin Rathbun, Arizona Cardinal’s Eddie Matney and the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks’
John Howie.

Said Dave Mergle from Skuna Bay Salmon: “Being invited to join the Taste of the NFL to ‘kick hunger in America’ is an honor that supports our values: of helping to feed the world while reducing pressure on wild fish stocks. We are proud to play a small part in addressing hunger through a donation to this great organization and of course we are equally proud that some of America’s greatest chefs will be using our salmon at the event to further this mission.”

Additional highlights of this year’s “Party with a Purpose” will include featured chefs from the New York area, special appearances by cast members of TLC’s Cake Boss, the newly crowned Miss America, and more. There is also a silent auction with unique sports memorabilia, exciting travel opportunities, culinary packages and more. Limited tickets remain. For more information, visit www.TasteoftheNFL.com.
