Scientists assessing environmental damage from the gulf oil spill say the event is reaching historic proportions.
"This is really uncharted territory," Dr. Mandy Joye said. "There's never been a spill like this. Just documenting what's in the water, and how much oil's getting to the bottom is, is critical."
From the sea floor to shore, ocean life in the gulf of Mexico is being choked by the growing oil spill.
A new group of researchers are trying to get a better handle on the scope of the disaster.
