Montreal – Quebec lobster has arrived at Metro! Beginning today, Metro supermarket customers are invited to pick up a live lobster from the Gaspé at their local store. Since 2012, this lobster can be traced from the sea to the plate.
Metro is proud to support local fishermen by being the only banner that promotes the traceability medallion of the Gaspé lobster, which guarantees its origin and its incomparable quality. Known for its white meat and its fresh and delicate taste, Gaspé lobsters have a traceability medallion attached to their claws that carries a number corresponding to a fisherman. Enter that code at metro.ca/lobster as of May 2 and you'll see a video featuring the crew that caught your lobster.
“Our association with Metro is a very natural one because the chain has been promoting Quebec and sustainable fishing products for several years.” said Oneil Cloutier, Executive Director of the Regroupement des pêcheurs professionnels du Sud de la Gaspésie (RPPSG). “Members of the Regroupement are currently completing the eco-certification process in order to solidify the traceability of their catches, which will make Gaspé lobster a product of sustainable fishing.”
This collaboration once again confirms the support that Metro provides to Quebec suppliers and to promoting their products. It goes along with the corporation's many initiatives with respect to sustainable fisheries.
