PSPA Seeks To Be Second MSC Client For Alaska Salmon

Pacific Seafood Processors Association has begun the process of applying to be a second client for a Marine Stewardship Council certificate for Alaska salmon starting in 2016, PSPA President Glenn Reed said July 7.

Reed said that while he was representing Trident Seafoods, Peter Pan Seafoods, North Pacific Seafoods and Alaska General Seafoods that PSPA would make its MSC salmon certificate available to any salmon producing company that wants to be part of their client group on an equal cost sharing basis.

The process is expected to take about six months, he said.

Seattle-based PSPA is a nonprofit seafood industry trade association whose corporate members are major seafood processing companies with operations in Alaska and Washington State. PSPA's member companies purchase, process and market hundreds of millions of pounds of salmon, pollock, crab, cod, halibut and other Alaska seafoods.
