Nova Scotia To Mandate Lobster Quality Handling Course For Buyers

YARMOUTH – Although lobsters are first handled on fishing boats, the province is making it mandatory for fish buyers on the wharfs to take a lobster quality handling course.

Those who don’t won’t get their licences renewed, said the province’s Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Fisheries minister Keith Colwell said the reason for the mandatory course is to decrease the amount of lobster mortality occurring. He said the intention is to improve the quality of lobster going to the marketplace, thereby generating more revenue.
