Washington, DC – The National Fisheries Institute’s Crab Council announces Atlantica Imports Inc. as its newest member. The Weston, Florida based company globally sources seafood products, utilizing a team of industry veterans to secure premium quality.
Founded in 2012, Atlantica Imports offers a diverse product list of superior seafood in addition to imported crabmeat. Atlantica’s strength in sourcing comes from diligent product research and extensive overseas travel.
“Atlantica goes the extra mile,” said President Chris Johnson. “We are a small-company that spans the globe, tracking down the best products from the farthest corners. In joining the Crab Council, Atlantica reaffirms its commitment to responsible sourcing.”
Atlantica Imports enters the Crab Council as the sustainability group’s 24th member. The Crab Council uses industry sponsorship to fund fishery improvement projects in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. For its innovative, business-led approach to sustainability, the Crab Council has received recognition from the U.N. Global Compact and partnered with leading NGOs.
Adding several new members in the past year, Council Chairman Brendan Sweeny credits the Crab Council’s surge in membership to a growing awareness of crab sustainability among the importing community.
“The Crab Council logo has become a symbol that denotes a focus on blue swimming crab management,” said Crab Council Chairman Brendan Sweeny. “More and more companies are making the commitment to put the logo on their cans and pledging to support crab fisheries on their path toward sustainability.”
The NFI Crab Council was founded in 2009 and funds blue swimming crab sustainability projects through contributions from participating companies and has received grants from the World Bank and the Walton Family Foundation.
