Memorial Day proves to be one of the most popular days of the year for friends and family to gather around a table full of steamed crabs, and seafood shops and crabhouses in and near Carroll County are gearing up for one of their busiest days of the season.
“We have had an adequate supply of crabs this year, judging by the price and availability on Mother’s Day,” said Mike Schuman, part-owner of Captain Dan’s Crabhouse in Eldersburg. “The outlook for this year is good, but not nearly as good as people are reporting."
The dine-in and carry-out crabhouse and seafood restaurant is already preparing for the holiday weekend. According to Schuman, they have already taken about 70 orders for various amounts.
Captain Dan’s is expecting to receive a couple hundred bushels of crabs for the Memorial Day weekend. Schuman said Father’s Day is their busiest day, but they usually sell 100 bushels on Memorial Day alone.
