MARSHFIELD — Most local lobstermen have pulled their gear from the water, but they are keeping a close eye on the State House, where lawmakers are poised to change how lobsters are processed and consumed in Massachusetts.
A bill awaiting a Senate vote next Thursday would allow shell-on lobster parts to be processed and sold in Massachusetts – things that are prohibited under current law.
“It’s an archaic law that needs to be updated,” said state Rep. James Cantwell, D-Marshfield, who teamed with Republican state Sen. Bruce Tarr of Gloucester to sponsor the legislation.
