Alaska Seafood Company of Juneau opened for business in 1986. We started with the idea that a quality smoked salmon product could look just as good as it tastes, featuring full fillet cuts of delicious smoked sockeye, silver and pacific salmon in a shelf-stable environment that would remain fresh and moist without refrigeration.
Since full fillets of salmon won't fit in a standard can, we pioneered a soft-can packaging process, a first in the seafood industry, replacing years of stuffing small chunks into a can. With all the positive properties of a canned product and the ability to package salmon in fillet form, the demand for Alaska Seafood Company products increased.
As an incentive for non-Alaskan recipients of our product, we included proven recipes and serving suggestions when we shipped our product outside of Alaska. The feedback on that idea was so positive, we now include serving suggestions on the packaging itself.
Four years ago, the Alaska Seafood Company relocated to a larger facility, custom designed and built to suit the unique needs of processing, smoking, packaging, storing and shipping what we believe to be the finest seafood products Alaska has to offer. We operate our smokehouse and cannery on a year round basis, employing a crew of 10-22 people, depending on the season.
