Lobster Food Safety Program Coming

A new pilot project next year will track the travels of Maritime lobster — from trap to plant to plate — in an effort to help ensure food safety.

Participants in the pilot project include representatives from two lobster fishermen organizations, six live shipping and processing enterprises, and two brokers from New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.

They will try out a traceability program starting next spring.

Officials say moving away from paperwork to software would speed reaction in the event of a recall of bad lobsters.
