Lobster Council Of Canada Working To Improve Price, WGFA Told

TIGNISH – The pricing system for Canadian lobster is dysfunctional, says the acting president of the Lobster Council of Canada.

"It doesn't work," Leonard LeBlanc told fishermen attending the annual meeting of the Western Gulf Fishermen's Association Monday in Tignish, before issuing a promise.

"We're willing to go to the wall and do whatever we have to do to change what's happening now," he said.

"I'm like you guys," LeBlanc told the WGFA members. "Come spring, I know the debt that I've incurred, getting ready to go fishing, but I don't know what the price is going to be to pay my debt. It would be nice if we had a system that actually gives you a price before you go fishing. Having a price a week or two weeks into the season, to me, is unacceptable."
