Henry Demone takes an omega-3 capsule every day.
But the president and chief executive officer of High Liner Foods Inc. is ensuring more people get their daily dose of heart-smart fatty oils the old-fashioned way: by eating fish.
During a meeting with The Chronicle Herald’s editorial board Tuesday, Demone talked about his company’s transformation from corporate basket case after the cod crisis of the early 1990s to a company with about $1 billion in annual sales after last year’s acquisition of Icelandic Group’s American and Asian operations.
“We understand the supply chain for seafood,” Demone said, explaining High Liner’s success.
By sourcing 30 kinds of fish in 20 countries, the Lunenburg company makes life easier for customers ranging from restaurants and retail giants such as Walmart to individual consumers who opt for High Liner-branded supermarket entrees.
