CHARLESTON — The longest price lock ever negotiated between crabbers and fish-processing plants is about to expire.
For crabbers who honored the negotiated deal, some at great costs, the wait is over Thursday.
'We stuck to our deal and we've given (processing plants) a lot of good quality crab for a lot lower price" than market value, said Rex Leach, the president of the Coos Umpqua Crabbers Association.
Under the terms of this year's negotiated deal between processors and fishermen, the crabbers who belong to the associations must sell their crab to the processors at the agreed-upon price from Dec. 15 until Thursday.
