Florida Keys’ Lobster Harvest Lowest In Years

KEY WEST, Fla. — Fishermen in the Florida Keys say they caught more lobster this season but struggled with low prices for the luxury dish.

Spiny lobster season began Aug. 6 and ends Wednesday.

State officials say about 4 million pounds of lobster was commercially harvested in Monroe County through February. That’s up from the 3.7 million pounds harvested last season, but a Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission researcher says it’s still the fifth-lowest catch on record.
