Fewer Maryland Crabs Available Means Higher Prices For Customers

CRISFIELD — Steaming hot crabs piled high onto newspaper-covered picnic tables is a summer ritual in backyards and waterfront crab houses around Maryland, but this year’s crab feasts could get expensive or hard to find due to shortages and higher prices.

Tawes said her supplier manages to get her what she needs, but it’s difficult.

“I get enough, but I don’t order extra,” she said.
