Innovative Packaging
Crown Prince continues to be the innovator in the specialty canned seafood category with new and improved pouch-packed sardines.
“The packaging is designed to be light in weight and minimal in material,” said Dustan Hoffman, President. “We wanted to create something that was convenient, efficient, and of the highest quality.”
Lightweight pouches reduce fuel consumption during transportation, thus decreasing the sardines’ carbon footprint between the ocean and your table. And at 3.53 ounces, the easy-to-open pouches are ideal for camping, snacking, or on-the-go.
Crown Prince implemented a more stringent packing process to ensure a more uniform product within the pouches. “Whenever you are doing something new it can require a little tweaking in order to perfect the packaging and product,” said Joe Bulf, Crown Prince Account Manager for Wal-Mart. The new and improved pouch sardines contain firmer fish and fewer scales. Consumers should see a minimum of 3 whole fish per pouch. The retorting process has been perfected so the fish are not over-cooked in the pouch. The outer case packaging has helped in reducing the handling of the individual pouches from factory to shelf in order to avoid damaging the product. Look for “NEW Improved” hi-lighted on the outer case for the best quality available on these pouch items.
Health Benefits
Each pouch of Crown Prince sardines offers 0.93 grams of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids per serving. According to Mayo Clinic, twice-weekly servings of fish high in omega-3s can help “decrease triglycerides, lower blood pressure, reduce blood clotting, boost immunity and improve arthritis symptoms, and in children may improve learning ability,” as well as reduce the risk of heart disease-related death by a third.
