GEORGETOWN, Maine — Maine's clamming industry is on the brink of collapse thanks to the invasive species green crabs, but clam diggers are fighting back with an experiment to keep the crabs out.
"Yeah the green crabs have attacked us, attacked our resources, and we're walking toward our solution to protecting the resource," said commercial clam harvester Chris Warner.
Warner said an area known as Heal Eddy, along the midcoast, used to be prime clamming territory before the green crabs started eating the young clams.
