NEW BEDFORD — American Pride Seafoods in New Bedford will get a $500,000-plus tax break from the city to create 52 new jobs at its plant on Herman Melville Boulevard as part of an agreement approved by the Patrick administration's Economic Development Incentive Program on Tuesday.
The EDIP is the state's investment tax credit program for businesses.
Already one of the largest integrated seafood companies in the United States, American Pride recently acquired Good Harbor Filet, a fish processor in Gloucester, and is relocating that operation to New Bedford, officials said.
The company now plans to expand its "value added" line of fish products, according to American Pride President John Cummings, and will need to hire more workers. "It's basically breading, battering, glazing and putting on different coatings for our core customer base, which is the restaurant trade," he said.
