LAS VEGAS — Terry Reinhardt had the catch of the day in mid-November, taking home the World Seafood Champion title at the World Food Championships (WFC). Reinhardt, a resident of Red Bud, Ill., competed in the weeklong, tournament-style competition, topping the ranks of his individual category and placing fifth in the overall competition, beating out over 400 competitors in the nine-category field and taking home $10,000. The World Food Championships took place in Downtown Las Vegas, Nov. 12-18.
After winning his way to the World Food Championships via a WFC Super Regional in Murphysboro, Ill., Reinhardt competed in the World Seafood Championship, presented by Alaska Seafood®. In order to make it to the Final Table, Reinhardt had to skillfully and tastily make his way through several rounds of competition, turning in a signature seafood dish and fish tacos. Reinhardt's Top Ten dish was a Beer and Brie Seafood Pot Pie, which earned him the title of the World Seafood Champion, advancing him to the Final Table where he competed against each of the remaining eight category champions.
"Reinhardt proves that you don't have to be a professional to succeed at the World Food Championships," said Mike McCloud, president of the World Food Championships. "A small-town, backyard cook making it to the top five in the world? That's an incredible story."
