WinCo Foods LLC — an employee-owned discount grocer based in Boise, Idaho — has handed over nearly $12 million in cash for a massive west Phoenix lot where it plans to erect an 800,000-square-foot warehouse within the next year and bring about 300 jobs to the Valley.
Business Real Estate Weekly of Arizona, or BREW, first reported the grocer’s plans in an article Wednesday morning. I attempted to reach WinCo representatives and its brokers at SRS Real Estate Partners in Phoenix — Ed Beeh, Chuck Gibson and Robbie Petty — for comment that afternoon, but I have not received a response.
According to BREW, the 74-acre parcel — located at the southwest corner of Buckeye Road and 75th Avenue — was sold by a entity controlled by Phoenix-based Swift Transportation Corp. (NYSE: SWFT).
WinCo plans to break ground on the warehouse next month and expects to wrap up within the next year. Construction costs are an estimated $78 million-plus, which the grocer will also cover in cash, the article said.
