Opening a high-end natural foods superstore amid the concrete expanse of one of the region's largest shopping areas — at a time when many potential customers are still struggling to make ends meet — might sound problematic.
But officials hope Schaumburg's new Whole Foods Market, which opens Wednesday at Streets of Woodfield, delivers on its promise of jobs and of being a mecca for suburban foodies.
"I'm hoping the people of Schaumburg really take to it," Village Trustee Jack Sullivan said. "I'm hoping we all begin eating a little bit healthier."
