West Sacramento-based Raley's, facing increasing pressure in a brutally competitive marketplace for grocers, announced Tuesday that it will close two Northern California stores, including one in Elk Grove.
The Bel Air store at 8787 Elk Grove Blvd. is slated for closure in March. Also scheduled to close at that time is the Raley's supermarket at 2401 E. Orangeburg Ave., in Modesto.
Raley's said the closures "will likely result in employee layoffs."
John Segale, a Raley's spokesman, said the Bel Air store in Elk Grove employs 81; the Raley's in Modesto has 76 workers.
