In a bid to entice more frequent shoppers, Target will be adding fresh produce, meats and baked goods to its Charlotte-area stores next year, throwing another grocer into the area's food landscape.
Target, which operates 12 Target and three Super Target stores in the region, wouldn't give an exact timetable or location of stores where food will be added.
The move is designed to increase how frequently shoppers visit Target, drawing more midweek, fill-in trips for people who might need to grab some groceries – and hopefully buy a few more discretionary items while they're there.
Super Targets, of which there are two in Charlotte and one in Kannapolis, already sell fresh produce. The other 12 locations, including stores in Charlotte, Gastonia, Rock Hill, Pineville, Huntersville and Monroe, could all be upgraded early next year.
