Tankersley Breaks Ground On $4 Mil. Van Buren Facility Expansion

Tankersley Foodservice Inc., a locally owned company with a 70-year history in the Fort Smith-Van Buren area, is growing again.

Company officials broke ground Tuesday on a $4 million addition that will add a combined 28,000 square feet of cold storage and dock space to the facility located in the Van Buren Industrial Park. The project will also expand and improve customer service offices.

Tankersley is a food service distribution company that delivers fresh and frozen products to stores, restaurants, schools and other institutions within a 225-mile radius of Van Buren. It provides jobs to more than 220 employees, most of them Crawford County residents.

Company President Thomas Moon told a group of about 30 gathered for the ceremonial turning of earth the construction will enable Tankersley to better manage current operations and expand its business. He said the expanded dock will result in the addition of 10 workers upon its completion and further expansion could add 25 to 30 employees.
