A new grocery store aims to bring Charlotte a taste of the world under one roof, selling Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern products and more in a spacious setting inspired by Wal-Mart and Costco.
Super G Mart plans to open June 21 in the former Bi-Lo store at 7323 E. Independence Blvd., in the Independence Square East shopping center.
Owner Stephen Kim, who opened the first and so far only other Super G in Greensboro in 2008, says he believes the Charlotte store will be the largest international supermarket in the Carolinas, at 52,000 square feet.
The Greensboro Super G has a bigger footprint, but only 36,000 square feet of it is devoted to food. That location draws from more than an hour away, Kim said, and he expects the Charlotte store to do the same.
