Smart & Final is opening what will be its largest location in town next month in the space formerly occupied by Borders Books and Music, which closed in May 2011 after its Ann Arbor, Mich., parent company went bankrupt.
A grand opening is scheduled for June 27 at the 25,000-square-foot store, 4980 Stockdale Highway.
The new location will be a so-called Extra! store, a larger concept within the Commerce, Calif.-based supermarket chain that carries produce, fresh meat, dairy and other perishable grocery items.
Of the company's 182 stores, only about 50 are Extra! stores, said Smart & Final spokesman Randall Oliver.
