Shoppers Aren’t Ready To Buy Groceries Online, Metro Says

Despite an increase in online advertising, consumers aren’t yet ready to do their grocery shopping via the Internet, the president and CEO of Metro said May 20th.

Only a small minority of Canadians are buying groceries online, Eric La Flèche said at an investors’ conference. However, he added that countries with populations similar to Canada have seen long-term potential.

Without the need for paper coupons, distribution of circulaires, which are used to attract customers, could be sharply affected, he said.
